I have a photojournalistic approach to shooting weddings, but will still capture those formal shots to document the day! Every wedding I shoot will include 1-2 meetings with the bride and groom, where we will come up with a timeline for the wedding day along with a master list of the desired pictures from the bride and groom, and of course leaving time for me to put my creative spin on things. I Heart Faces - "Autumn Beauty" Picture Contest

So this is a great theme this week! I love capturing the changes of seasons with my kids through pictures. The only problem with getting enough leaves for my kids to play in at our home, is that we built a house 6 years ago, and all our trees are still to small to produce enough leaves to make worth jumping in. So we did the next best thing, and grabbed our rake, and headed to the park by our house. The crazy thing was, while my daughter was raking the leaves, she found a snake. So I spent a few minutes trying to get this snake far away from us, so it wouldn't bother the kids while they played. I'm surprised my daughter was even okay to play in the leaves after that. I love this picture so much, because you can see the expression on my son's face without seeing the front of his face. This is the first year that he got the point of playing in the leaves, and it was so much fun!!!!! Be sure to check out the other great pictures at I Heart Faces.

I once again was thrilled to have found my picture chosen as one of the top ten picks of the weekly challenge of I Heart Faces. This week I got the number five pick. I absolutely love challenging myself with the weekly contest with the unique themes. Cancellation Policy

PLEASE READ: Due to an on going problem of people changing their photo session appointments, I have had to come up with a cancellation policy. I do ask that when clients make an appointment they take into consideration that I usually only do one photo shoot a day, so when one appointment date gets changed that messes up my schedule for the entire day. I do have a younger son, who I make arrangements for when I am working, and it does not only mess my schedule up, but also for the person who is watching my son for me. Having said that, please choose the date and time very carefully. I do try to make myself very flexible in order to accommodate most schedules, but please don't read into that, as if I have nothing better to do then to keep rescheduling one appointment for someone. I try to limit myself to 2-4 photo shoots a week, and the rest of my open time I'm working on editing pictures, placing orders, and talking to clients. So my cancellation policy is as followed.

CANCELLATION POLICY: If someone makes an appointment and they need to change the date, I will ask that half of the session fee be mailed to me as a deposit in order to hold the next date. If the second date's appointment is kept the deposit will go towards the session fee, and if the date is cancelled the client will loose the deposit, and to hold a third date, another deposit will need to be mailed. If a third date is cancelled the client once again loses the deposit, and the photographer reserves the right to not make any further appointments for the client.

BAD WEATHER: Many ask, what will happen if the weather is bad on the day of our photo shoot? First of all it is up to the discretion of myself, the photographer, if the appointment should be cancelled due to weather. Bad weather, consist of all day raining, thunderstorms, or a blizzard. Do keep in mind, when making an appointment, that most likely you will not get a perfect 70 degree day. We live in Ohio, and the chances of that is very slim! When scheduling in the spring and fall, it could very likely be in the lower 40's. That is not enough reason to cancel a session. Also if you schedule something in the summer, then anything less then 92 is not a reason to cancel a session. It is always best to shoot in the shade if it is a sunny day, so that will help keep it cooler for the really hot days!

Resizing Prints For Ordering

Please keep in mind when ordering prints, that all my photos are formatted to a 4x6 size, and from there the larger the print you order, the more that gets cropped off the picture. Below is an example of a picture resized 3 different times, and as you can see each picture still looks great, and the part that was cropped really didn't take away from the picture!

However, the pictures below were also resized like the one above, and as you can see this picture was originally taken without a lot of space on either side of the subject, not leaving any good room for cropping. The picture still looks good, but not as good as the original size of 4x6. Keep going down further on page for other options of ordering larger prints.

There are a few other options when ordering prints to not loose any of the original picture that was taken. The first thing that I can do is order a custom size. So if you want an 8x10, I can order a size that is close to that size, but you will not loose any of the picture. The down side to that is, when you go to frame your picture you will need to have your print custom framed, which can prove to be costly.

Another option is having a border around your photo. The following pictures were resized from a 4x6 photo to an 10x13 photo, but I filled the border space with black or with white. I can also customize the border to another color if someone prefers.

Please let me know if you have any questions about resizing before your order is placed. I do not like reordering prints due to the customer not being happy with the cropping of the print. That is why I made this page to make the client aware of the resizing process, so their is no disappointment with the end result.

Why does custom photography cost so much?

This is probably the biggest question most people ask themself about custom photography. I wish I could say that every custom professional photographer had photos good enough that they could come right off their camera and they would be ready to print. Infact, custom photography couldn't be any further from that. Capturing the pictures on the camera is only part of a custom photographers job. You see a custom photographer is different in the fact that we are usually not in a studio, with professional lighting, and umbrellas, and reflectors to capture that perfect lighting of our subjects. Most custom photographers, like myself depend on natural light for our source of lighting for our pictures. When using natural light, the elements are alway different and depends on the time of the day, whether it is cloudy, or sunny. All of these variables change the way we capture a portrait, and how we correct any elements after we take the portrait.

Like I mentioned before, taking the photo is only part of a custom photographers job, the other part is editing or processing the prints. The first step in this process is sorting through the large amounts of pictures that we take from one photo session. I can very easily take 300-500 photos in an hour and a half photo session. That may seem like a lot, but I never want to miss anything. Even when my clients think I'm done shooting pictures, I keep going, and sometimes those are the best ones. Having said that, sorting through 300-500 pictures for the best pictures is a very tedious task. Once I have selected the best pictures, the digital correcting begins. I always like to clean up the picture, by removing any blemishes or spots. I then like to sharpen, and brighten my photos through a few step process that I do. After I have come up with the corrected version of the picture, I save it, and then I like to try something else to make the picture more fun. Below are some options that I like to use, but I am not limited to. I feel each picture I edit is a piece of art, and I like to put my creative spin on each and every one of my photos.

I spend on average 7-8 hours to edit pictures from one photo session. This is not including my time to take the photos, my drive time to and from the photo shoot, my prep time preparing my props and other things for the photo session, the time I spend scouting out locations for photo shoots, the time I spend talking to clients before the photo session discussing things like locations, and wardrobe, the time I spend getting the proofs to the clients, and my time to order the prints, and finally by not least the time I spend getting the prints to the clients. As you can see from beginning to end custom photography is nothing like going to your local studio. You will not get your photos back in an hour, but instead you will get the time and dedication it takes to make your portraits special and unique. You will also get any prints you order developed in a professional picture lab, and it will be printed on professional paper. From there, I recover the rest of my cost from the prints that are bought. So if your wandering why a 4x6 isn't 20 cents like your local Walmart, the reason is because of all the time that has gone into creating your custom portraits.

1 location of your choice or 2 locations if they are very close together

All photo shoot collections will be uploaded for 2 weeks into a password protected, on line gallery where you can view your pictures from home.
I will feature 5-20 low resolution pictures with my watermark from each session, on my Kim Stahnke Photography facebook page, and each client has my permission to tag the photos in order to have others view them from their facebook page
Portrait ordering consultation if needed (this can be over the phone or an appointment can be made)
I am willing to drive up to 30 miles to the location of your choice and will drive farther for a minimal charge.

Capturing a newborn is special and unique. When taking pictures of newborns it isn't like any other photoshoots that I do. First of all, I like most of my picture to be of a newborn sleeping. The reason for this is, if anyone knows a newborn, they know they make some very silly faces when they are awake, and they do like to squirm and move around alot. Capturing a cute picture of a newborn is easier said then done. Sometimes I can capture a good picture of a newborn awake, if the baby is settle, but sometimes that isn't going to happen. I also like to capture newborns in a natural way with using no clothing or a diaper with a blanket around the baby. I like to take pictures of them just cuddled up asleep, and then some in some cute little props. I like to use hats and textures around the newborns. Most would look at newborn pictures and think that taking picture of a baby asleep is easy. It is easy for the fact that if you get them the way you want they don't move, but the other half of it is, getting them asleep, and then in a pose you want, without the baby waking up. Having said that, I usually plan for a longer photo session, then my other portrait sessions. I want plenty of time for the baby to eat if need be, and plenty of time to get the baby asleep.

I like to do the newborn photo shoot in the babies home. I feel everyone will be most comfortable. I want to capture the nursery with the parents in it with the baby if possible, and then for the rest of the pictures all I will need is a place in the home with a large window or windows letting natural light in. Having said that, a newborn session will need to be done during the day when it is light outside. The home will need to be kept at a very warm temperature. For me to capture any kind of picture of a newborn sleeping without clothes, the newborn needs to be in a very warm comfortable environment. That means to us, very hot. If you are hot with a short sleeve shirt on, then the baby will be perfect. I will also bring a small space heater and a heating pad to help keep the area warm for the baby.

I do like to schedule my newborn sessions around the period of time the baby likes to sleep the most. If that means first thing in the morning, that is fine with me, I'll be there!!! Trust me, it is worth it if we can capture the baby asleep, rather then spend all our time getting the baby asleep.

It is also best if the baby is fed prior to my arrival, in a diaper wrapped in a blanket. This will make things easy for us to get started.

It is optional if the parents and siblings want to be part of this photo shoot. To me there is nothing sweeter then a mother or a father holding a newborn in their arms. It does look great if the parents where black shirts to go with my black backdrop, so that the focus is on the hands, face, or arms of the parents and the newborn. I also like to capture siblings and family members laying on a bed with a newborn. It really captures the moment. So if there is a large bed in the home with good lighting have the room ready for me to photograph in.

This book is one I created for my mom from a photo shoot that I did with my family. My mother absolutely loved it. I also have a dedication page in front of page 1 and you can write a personal message to someone or just post some extra pictures.

About Me: I'm a christian, a wife, a mother to three wonderful children, and I'm a photographer who works in Medina County and surrounding areas. I have every age group covered in my house. A teenager, a tween, and a toddler. My oldest two girls are both biological, and my youngest child is a boy who we adopted from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

I love being a mom, and photography helps me capture those wonderful moments that I always want to remember. I am always putting the camera in front of my children, but I just can't help myself, because I have always been fascinated with photography. In fact, I got my first camera at age 10, and I have been putting my pictures all over my walls since that day.

I have to say though, photography is truly a passion of mine, and it can easily take up all my time. Having said that, my family, and my faith are the most important things in my life, so I do have to limit how many photo shoots I do each week. Photography to me is a way to capture life at that moment. I always worry that if I don't photograph everything around me, I will loose that moment forever!

About my photography: It's good for someone to know my style of photography before contacting me. First of all, I am not a big fan on studio, posed, portraits. I feel like everyone has already been there and done that. I am an on site photographer, and what I want to provide for my clients, is a picture that is going to capture something special and unique. I'm also a natural light photographer, and everything you see on my website, aside of the wedding receptions, is from natural light. That doesn't mean that I'm limited to just working outside, because all I need is some windows with natural light for inside photo shoots.

My style for wedding photography could be described as photojournalistic. I will do those formal, or traditional shots, but I focus most of my time capturing the wedding day through unique pictures!

I love photgraphying children while they are playing. Kids don't like to sit still, long enough smile while sitting still. So I like to provide an alternative. Where, I may capture some posed pictures, most will not. I may give children simple comands to follow, give them something to play with, and then I have to be ready to capture their cuteness.

As far as my style for high school seniors, I also like to capture pictures that describe who they are and what they are interested in. Props that describes who the individual is, is always great, and the locations is the most important. I can help with ideas on locations, but I want to take pictures where my seniors are most comfortable.

As far as families, I love to capture parents interacting with their children. Once again, I will do a few posed pictures, but from there I will do my best to capture something you can always treasure. I also photograph events, so keep that in mind when your planning a special birthday, anniversary, or graduation party. It's to hard to host a party and also be the one to capture the memories by taking pictures. So leave that to me, and it will be one less thing you have to think about at your event.

Just remember life is to short to not capture the moments through pictures. Call today to have something special to put up on your wall!

After all of my photo shoots, it usually takes about a week to edit the photos, and sometimes up to two weeks. I will then upload all the edited pictures to be viewed on my password protected on line gallery. You will then be contacted by email with the link and password to your on line gallery.

After you have received your on line gallery information you will have up to 3 weeks to order. For an additional $25.00 your gallery can be viewed for an extra week. After the 3 week period, all pricing will increase by 25%, excluding the ordering of greeting or speciality cards, due to needing to order these closer to an event or holiday.
